Connect your own domain

Your store already has a free address, yourshop.okmart.app. You can also open it at a domain you own, like trishaanvi.shop, from the OK Mart app: Settings › Domains › Connect existing domain. You add one or two DNS records where you bought the domain; we do the rest, including the SSL certificate (the padlock).

The records

Every record points at shops.okmart.app. The app shows the exact ones for your domain and your provider, with copy buttons.

  • A subdomain (shop.example.com, www.example.com): a CNAME record, name shop (or www), value shops.okmart.app.
  • A root domain (example.com): a root cannot hold a CNAME, so it needs your provider's ALIAS, ANAME or CNAME flattening record, name @, value shops.okmart.app, plus a CNAME for www. We connect both; www opens the root.
  • A provider with no ALIAS (GoDaddy, BigRock): connect www.example.com with a CNAME, and use the provider's domain forwarding to send example.com to https://www.example.com (permanent, 301, without masking). www.example.com is then your main address.

There is no IP address to use instead: our addresses belong to Cloudflare and can change (fixed addresses for root domains are a Cloudflare Enterprise feature). An A record to an address you found will stop working one day.

By provider

ProviderRoot domainTTL
GoDaddyCNAME www → shops.okmart.app, then forward the root to https://www.<root>1 Hour
HostingerCNAME @ → shops.okmart.app3600
NamecheapALIAS @ → shops.okmart.appAutomatic
BigRockCNAME www → shops.okmart.app, then forward the root to https://www.<root>3600
CloudflareCNAME @ → shops.okmart.appAuto
Squarespace (Google Domains)ALIAS @ → shops.okmart.app1 hour
  • Cloudflare: set the records to DNS only (grey cloud). A proxied (orange) record shows error 1014 until the domain is connected.
  • Hostinger: add a CNAME at @; Hostinger shows it as ALIAS. Turn Hostinger CDN off for the domain first.
  • Squarespace (Google Domains): ALIAS records need DNSSEC turned off.
  • Namecheap: the domain must use Namecheap BasicDNS (Advanced DNS tab).

Before you add them

  • Delete other A, AAAA or CNAME records on the same names (an old website or a parking page). Leave MX and TXT records alone: they are your email.
  • If your domain has CAA records, they must allow letsencrypt.org, pki.goog, ssl.com, or the certificate cannot be issued.
  • Do not change your nameservers.

Check that it worked

DNS changes take from a few minutes up to 48 hours. On a computer:

dig +short CNAME www.example.com # prints shops.okmart.app.
dig +short A example.com # the same addresses as:
dig +short A shops.okmart.app

# Windows
nslookup -type=CNAME www.example.com 1.1.1.1

Or look the name up on dnschecker.org. While the app is open it checks by itself and shows each step: DNS found, Verifying, SSL issuing, Connected, usually within 15 minutes of the records working. Then make the domain your primary one, so search results and shared links use it.

Removing a domain

Remove it in Settings › Domains. Your store stops answering at it at once; your okmart.app address keeps working. You can then delete the records.
